Meet Your Chairs

DISEC

Picture

Erik Hsu

Head Chair
Hey y’all! I’m Erik, the head chair for the DISEC and a sophomore at Taipei American School. I started MUN in 7th grade and have been to over 15 conferences so far. I've chaired and won Best Delegates in all types of procedures: THIMUN, UN4MUN, Crisis and UNA-USA. MUN has been transformative for me as it allowed me to have a positive outlet for my love of arguing and debate, gain confidence, and learn diplomacy skills that made me a kinder and more helpful person. I'm looking forward to chairing for NBMUN to further our collective interest and love for MUN.

Cherry Sung

Deputy Chair
Hello! I am Cherry Sung, a freshman at Chadwick International and a youth environmental activist. This is my 3rd year participating in MUNs, and I am well known in the international MUN circuit, serving in various positions ranging from a delegate to Secretary General. I love MUNs because they give us the opportunity to vividly experience imperative global issues and become young diplomats who actively negotiate on solutions. I believe diplomacy and solidarity are keys to reaching the global goals. Thus, I look forward to attaining them in NoBorders MUN '22!

Joy Kim

Associate Chair
Joy is an eighth-grade student currently attending the Korean International School located in South Korea. He has started his MUN experience since 2 years ago, and has attended numerous conferences both as a delegate and a chair. Joy feels extremely glad to be a part of this NBMUN iteration as a chair if the DISEC committee. His main objective is to not only make the conference as engaging as possible for delegates, but also make the atmosphere the most welcoming for all delegates; whether they are experienced or just starting their first MUN experience. In the conference, Joy will try his absolute best to make the delegates' experience on this conference the best. With the co-chair Cherry Sung and head chair Erik Hsu, he will cooperate together to answer all inquiries of delegates and appropriately moderate and facilitate debates and conversations of delegates. He is very excited to see the smiles, engagement, and fun from all delegates in the conference.

ECOFIN

Ricky Jang

Head Chair
Hello, my name is Ricky Jang, and I am a junior at Daegu International School. It is a great honor to serve as the head chair of the Economic and Financial Committee in NBMUN III. Through various MUN conferences such as YMUN and HMCA, I played a pivotal role in leading the MUN team as a student coach and a key delegate. These experiences allowed me to broaden my understanding of global issues and provided a valuable opportunity to communicate with friends from multicultural backgrounds. Recently, SDGs and ESGs are among the most extensive interests we share. As of the digital transformation era, it is integral for global citizens to understand the worldwide trend, effectively communicate, and mitigate global economic issues. I hope this conference will be an opportunity to share joint interests and broaden our vision to find future values through Model United Nations.

Sahngwon Lee

Deputy Chair
Hello Delegates! This is Sahngwon Lee, a current rising Junior in Seoul International School. I first started MUN in 8th grade, and I remember that in my first conference, I could not say a single word or speech. However, as I participated in more and more conferences throughout the years, my public speaking abilities and my confidence increased to the point where I was one of the most active delegates in every conference I attended. As a chair in No Borders MUN, I want to encourage all delegates to participate and be comfortable in expressing their ideas and opinions, as I believe that this is the whole point of MUN. I hope that through comprehensive discussions and debates, we can come together and cooperate to create the best solution(s) to the agendas at hand, making the world a better place as a whole.

Hajin Ruy

Associate Chair
Hello delegates, my name is Hajin Ruy, and I am currently a sophomore in Korea International School Jeju. I am very excited to chair ECOFIN committee, since this is my first time chairing a GA. I hope that everyone enjoys this committee just as much as I've enjoyed past committees in No Borders MUN. Joining this MUN will help you grow as a better negotiator, speaker, collaborator, and debater. I am looking forward to meeting all of you online!

SOCHUM

Kai Hyodo

Head Chair
Hello Delegates! My name is Kai Hyodo, and I will be serving as your Head Chair for the SOCHUM committee. I am currently a junior at the American School In Japan, and I am seventeen years old. I joined the MUN community in my freshman year of high school, being persuaded by a friend that it was a great experience. Over the years, I’ve come to love the heated discourse, intense POIs, and collaboration with other delegates to create a compelling and creative resolution! I have attended numerous conferences in Japan and internationally since I have started, and I have chaired in five of them. Some conferences I have participated in include CISSMUN, IASASMUN, and ASIJMUN, and I have participated in NBMUN as a delegate and as a chair. I am so excited to be a part of this conference as a chair, and I hope to contribute to fostering compelling and fruitful debates so that this conference can be as engaging and memorable regardless of the online circumstances! See you all at the conference!

Stella Lee

Deputy Chair
Welcome to NBMUN III! I'm Stella Lee, and will be serving you all as a deputy chair of the SOCHUM along with our head chair Kai and associate chair Sarah. I'm a rising junior in Korea International School Jeju, and this will be my fifth as a MUNer as well as my fifth time chairing. NBMUN is a great platform to make international connections. I genuinely hope that this committee can not only be insightful, but also can be an opportunity for you to enjoy the essence of international conference: building diverse friendship! If you have any prior questions or concerns, please feel free to contact shlee24@kis.ac or any of our chairs. Sign up for SOCHUM, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all in conference!

Sunwoo Yoo

Associate Chair
Welcome to NBMUN III! I am excited to serve as one of the chairs of the SOCHUM committee. As a long-time debater, I truly believe in the benefits that organized debates like MUN that encourage youths to discuss real-world issues can bring to the world. Even though our resolutions will not be implemented by the UN, I believe we should still take pride in the fact that we have raised awareness of the issue and have researched on past and possible future actions. I hope you enjoy our conference and continue your MUN career!

CRISIS 1

Picture

Yoonseo (Bennie) Ko

Crisis Director
Hi! I'm Yoonseo Ko, a rising senior at Korea International School Jeju. It is my greatest honor to be serving as your Crisis Director of NBMUN III. I still remember my first experience as a delegate when it was very challenging for me to speak up and take part in the vigorous discussions that seemed to be endless. As a director who’s been in the exact same place as every single delegate, I hope I can be a huge supporter to the delegates, regardless of how experienced or inexperienced they are. Just like every MUN conference was such a golden memory for me, I wish all delegates would make an unforgettable experience at NBMUN III!
Picture

Hiroki Kurata

Head Chair
Hello Delegates! My name is Hiroki Kurata, and am a sophomore currently enrolled in Singapore American School. I have lived in Singapore, France, Taiwan, and Japan, which has helped cultivate my passion for international politics to MUN. This will be my eleventh conference I will be attending as either a chair or a delegate. MUN has significantly improved on my public speaking, collaborative, and research skills while at the same time exposing me to various critical international issues. As Head Chair of the Crisis Committee, I will strive towards making the committee as educational and entertaining as possible while ensuring the conference runs smoothly.

Nandini Bhatkal

Deputy Chair
Hello delegates, I'm pleased to meet you all! This is my 4th year of MUN, and I am more than excited to serve as the Deputy Chair for Crisis 1. My MUN journey has been nothing short of spectacular, and I have cultivated diplomacy, collaborative, and research skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I encourage all delegates to remain diplomatic, respectful, and engaged in debate in order to create and implement effective solutions. However, don't forget to have fun, make friends, and connect with other delegates and chairs. As the deputy chair, I will ensure that your crisis experience is informative, captivating, and enjoyable. I am always here to support and help you with debate or lobbying if you need it.

Chiedza Banga

Associate Chair
Hello delegates! As a fellow public speaker, history lover, and discussion enjoyer, I'd like to extend my warmest greetings to everyone. I hail from Zimbabwe, but for the past few years I have been living in South Korea as an international student, with the privilege of being apart of my school's MUN chairing board. I have an avid interest in current affairs and debate, alongside a keen interest in United Nations conferences. Expect a highly engaged, active associate chair for Crisis Committee 1, who'll act as a helping hand to each and every delegate. Through the unpredictability of Crisis Committee, I hope to see creative, intuitive minds who adapt to whatever is thrust upon them. Let's start off NBMUN 2022 off with a Bang!

CRISIS 2

Picture

Anika Kim

Crisis Director
Hello, esteemed chairs and delegates! This is Anika Kim, who will be serving as your director for Crisis #2 in No Borders MUN 2022. I am a freshman at Korea International School Jeju, and this is my third time participating in No Borders, but it's my first time participating as a non-delegate for this conference. I've been a delegate since 7th grade and started to really enjoy my experiences as an MUNer, and I really hope everyone part of this year's conference also gets to experience this exciting feeling. Besides being a passionate MUN member, I'm also very interested in playing video games (Genshin Impact, The Sims, ... ), learning Japanese, and sketching portraits! I can't wait to meet new people and make new friends in this year's NBMUN. See you all in the conference!

Sophie Wong

Head Chair
Hi everyone! I am Sophie, a current junior at Taipei American School serving as the Head Chair for the Crisis 2 Committee. My Model United Nations journey began in fifth grade with the role of a page. I have gained experience over the years in roles such as a press team member, delegate, judge, and chair. I’ve attended 12+ conferences with different procedures ranging from THIMUN, UNA-USA, Crisis, to ICJ. As NBMUN will be held virtually, it may seem challenging to maintain the quality of discussions. Nonetheless, I look forward to helping and encouraging passionate delegates to actively participate in establishing consensus. I hope this conference will be full of vibrant and interesting debates and that your research will enhance your knowledge!

Curtis Ko

Deputy Chair
Hello, my name is Curtis, and I am honored to announce that I am going to be your deputy chair for the economic and social council. I am currently a sophomore in IBST and this would be my tenth MUN. When I am not participating in MUNs, I like to watch Netflix, swim and play basketball. I started to MUN through debate, and I started debating because of the controversial topics I was able to argue on. Soon I understood that MUN discussed such topics as well, I was quickly intrigued by MUN and started participating. Ever since the day of joining I have gained an immense amount of knowledge, and so far it has been a fun and valuable trip. I am really looking forward to watching a fruitful debate unfold on the interesting topics we have for this year. As deputy chair I am going to try my best to help any delegates, so don’t hesitate to approach me when you have questions. See you in September!!

Katelyn Oh

Associate Chair
Hello! My name is Katelyn Oh, a current sophomore at Seoul International School. I associate countless memorable experiences to the activity that can almost be said to have shaped my high school life thus far: MUN. Although my first conference as a middle school student was devastating to say the least, I met many amazing people across the world through offline and online conferences, and discussing global issues with people from various backgrounds taught me to understand different perspectives. Thanks to MUN, I was able to improve upon many important skills including public speaking, debating, and writing. Whether you are aiming for awards or just trying to familiarize yourself with the MUN format, my co-chairs and I will do our utmost to aid you all.

ALTERNATIVE

Picture

Daniel Shin

Alternative Chair
Hello delegates, my name is Daniel Shin, a rising junior at Seoul International School. It is a pleasure to serve as one of your chairs for NBMUN III. My progression in MUN began when I was in 6th grade, where I took upon an opportunity to engage in civil discussions at my school. Since then, I have attended numerous different conferences both big and small, and each of them has been a highly memorable and educational experience. I hope NBMUN III serves as an educational opportunity for all of you as well. Amidst an ongoing pandemic, we are faced with new challenges, with each requiring its own set of solutions. Take NBMUN III as a chance to put yourselves out there and find meaningful solutions to the problems around us.
